Hammam & Treatments

The heat, the water, then the rest

The hammam is not one treatment among others. It is a weekly rite, a long hour, and one of the few things in Morocco still done slowly.

The ritual

Three movements, in this order

01

The heat

Twenty minutes in the steam, doing nothing at all. The skin opens, the shoulders come down. We bring cool water and then leave you alone.

02

Black soap and the kessa

Olive-oil black soap, spread and left to work. Then the exfoliation with the kessa glove — thorough, methodical, faintly brutal. This is the part regulars come back for.

03

Ghassoul, then rest

Ghassoul clay from the Atlas over body and hair, rinsed in warm water, finished with argan oil. Then mint tea, in no particular hurry.

Worth knowing

What do I wear?

Swimwear bottoms. Towel, robe and slippers are provided at the spa. Treatments are individual, and men and women are received separately.

How long should I allow?

The treatment, plus half an hour of doing nothing afterwards. Nobody leaves a hammam in a hurry, and that is rather the point.

Do you have a spa on the estate?

Not yet. For now we book your hammam and treatments with spa partners we know and trust nearby, and we take care of the arrangements and the car for you.

Are there any reasons not to?

The heat is not advised during pregnancy, or with high blood pressure or a heart condition. Tell us and we will adapt the treatment — a massage without the steam works perfectly well.
